ATTN: GRADUATE SELECTION COMMITTEE
I am enthusiastically applying for a Master’s Degree in Tourism and Hospitality Management in the University of Plymouth. I am currently working as Customer Service, Ticketing and Reservation Officer at Aloinee Travel & Tour Ltd. I have so much interest in Hospitality Management and I would love to build a career on it. I have completed a comprehensive undergraduate program from the Department of History and International Studies, Delta State University Abraka, Delta State, Nigeria. I graduated with a second – Class Upper honor.
Hospitality industry is one of the fastest growing industries with great variety which makes it very interesting area of working. In the last couple of years, tourism has become an important sector that has had a great impact on the development of country economics. A career in the in tourism and hospitality management can pave way for fantastic opportunities.
What I love most about Hospitality Management is that it does not confine you to working in one location. From Tourism, to catering, hotel management, event planning etc. I never thought about the financial opportunity which the industry offer, until I started working for Aloinee Travels and Tour, learning about the world, new places, hotel reservations marketing, trying to get new clients from hotels and companies etc. All these awoke my long term dream to own an event centre where I can also practice my skills on fashion design.
Though my preferred course is provided by colleges and universities here in Nigeria, the existing educational system led me to choose abroad studies to pursue my career. Studying Hospitality Management at the University of Plymouth will equip me with the knowledge and skills required to succeed in my career. First of all the United Kingdom is ideal to explore Europe and the cultural variety it offers. As a lover of nature, I find the nature of England very attractive and I look forward to seeing its beauties especially the Aquarium in Bristol. Secondly, the UK is home to some of the top universities in the world. Because of the mixture of skills it requires, Hospitality Management sits somewhere between business management, media and communication and modern languages and universities in the United Kingdom all excel in the study of these subjects streams. The third reason is that the study of tourism and hospitality requires a direct link with practice and experience, and teaching and learning in the UK are firmly based on case studies and practical knowledge.
My dream is to acquire all the necessary knowledge on Tourism and Hospitality at University of Plymouth and come back home to open an event center and also an institution in Nigeria where this knowledge will be put in application. I also have the ambition to own and manage Hotel that will meet the Global Standard in terms of hospitality and management.
In my desire to achieve the above ambitions, I have identified the University of Plymouth and I vehemently believe that the university has the potential to add these competent and academic values to me considering her exceptional operation systems. The exceptional education systems in terms of quality of lecturers, the support of international students, the gregarious atmosphere at both the university as well as the city and the stimulating and unique atmosphere for research and learning are factors that inform my decision to choose the University of Plymouth.
Thank you for the opportunity to submit this application for your consideration. I look forward to communicating with you in the near future.
